Welcome to the Amelia Island Quilt Guild.  This Guild was established in 1988 with thirty members.  Our current membership consists of 70+ members.  The goal of the Guild is to promote quilting and educate the public about the craft of quilting.

Membership is open to the public and available upon receipt of annual membership dues of twenty-five dollars.

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise announced.  Meetings consist of a program, business meeting and Show and Tell.

Officers are elected by the membership to serve one- year terms.  See the list of our current board and committee chairs for contact information.

Members are asked to make and wear name tags to facilitate getting to know other members.  A penalty of 25 cents is assessed for not wearing a nametag.  The monies will be used for the purchase of quilting book(s) for the library.

All beginning quilters or new members are invited to request a Quilt Sister who can help with quilting problems or answer questions.  The contact person to request a Quilt Sister is Barbara Tucker (261-9969).

Members can earn pins to wear on their name badges by bringing finished quilts to show and tell.  Gold safety pins are earned by adding the length and width of one side of your quilt.  The total number of inches is applied to an established formula to determine the number of safety pins earned.  For every 10 safety pins earned, you may exchange them for a quilt pin.  AIQ Guild pins are also on sale for $5 each.

The Guild support the following charities with the gift of a quilt made by guild members:

Habitat for Humanity                   Hospice

Micah's House                             Shands Neo-natal Unit

Joy to the Children                      Aslan House

Various members have organized small quilting groups that meet at individual homes during the month

The program chairman organizes both programs and workshops  of quilting techniques/projects.  These programs and workshops are announced at the guild meetings and are listed in the newsletter, which is published monthly.

The Guild presents a quilt show  once every three years as a major fundraiser where money is raised by selling chances on a raffle quilt.   The show is open to the public for an admission fee.   Quilts made by the members are publicly displayed and judged.  As a member, you are required to sell or purchase a certain number of raffle tickets.  The next show will be in the spring of 2011.

An annual retreat is held in January at Epworth-by-the Sea on St. Simons Island.  Members pay a fee, which includes meals and a semi-private or private room for three days.  The format for the weekend usually includes a project taught by knowledgeable quilters or the opportunity to work on your own projects without having to cook meals or make up your bed.

Books can be ordered at reduced prices when purchased from AQS in multiples of six or more orders.  Cynthia Janney is in charge of book orders and will have the order sheets at Guild meetings.

During the Guild year, fabric swaps, block-of-the-month , and/or challenges will be held.  Check your newsletter or contact a board member for information.
