The Quilts of Valor project was started over the summer of 2008 after Gail Niedernhofer brought the idea to the Amelia Island Quilt Guild during our May meeting.  The first two quilts were sent to Ramstadt Germany where  injured soldiers are initially taken.  At our first meeting in September we presented Lisa Harter mother of Taylor Harter from Fernandina Beach, FL a quilt picked out by his younger brother Sam.  Taylor continues his recovery at Walter Reed Army Hospital.  The quilt choosen for Taylor was made by Theresa MegnaAt the September meeting Ens. Nicholette Eagen was visiting and offered to hand carry the quilts to the injured soldiers at Bethesda Naval Hospital as well as Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital where she is stationed as a nurse.  The ladies took on this challenge and in December of 2008 Ens. Eagen will be personally delivering forty four quilts made by guild members as well as others who have donated their talents.  Ten quilts have also been sent to a rehabilitation center for wounded veterans at James A Haley Veterans Hospital Poly-Trauma Unit, Tampa, FL.  Watch for updates.
